Originally posted by renecane:I like the idea of powerful extradimensional beings coming to take your mindpower to become more powerful, but implementation seems to be all kinds of borked right now. Even if the mod helps, I want the base game to be good - I mean, I wrote a huge Esper guide, I want to be able to point to it without having to add "oh, but Espers are nearly unplayable at high levels right now unless you add this mod to fix them." So I'd still like to see some acknowledgement that the current Glimmer mechanics are not good and will be fixed at some point. I'm mildly annoyed because while, yes, I understand why it was implemented and I trust that there were some people complaining about how powerful pre-glimmer Espers were, even if I never came across them, it's pretty obvious at this point that the glimmer mechanics have caused way more problems than they've solved and that way more people have complained about them (complaints about them are a pretty regular feature on the forum.) I'm still hoping that the system is drastically overhauled at some point, though just telling people how to disable it isn't ideal. Here is my suggestion thread about it (it's where AlphaBeard posted the patch to disable it.) Even if you can beat them they rapidly become unfun, since you have to use the exact same tactics over and over. The simple answer is that high level Esper hunters are not very well-balanced. What is your opinions on playing esper and these esper hunters? How do you usually deal with them? Is playing espers harder now than it used to be? Is it even possible to be succesful with a esper? They just keep on coming and coming and coming. But from these guys? Not so much because either the same guy just keeps coming after you or a new one turns up couple screens over. With other tough enemies that you don't want to deal with, you can usually escape one way or another from them. In the past I've gotten to the bottom of Bethesda Susa with a very, very underpowered melee character by playing very, very safe and I even managed to kill the jetpack guy with that character. Like I mentioned, my latest character before his death was getting these invaders every third screen of so, and every one of them was tougher than anything else I've ever seen on this game before. Was I missing something crucial? Does the force wall / bubble defend against these guys? Does armor help? Does anything help?Īnother thing that really felt like I was doing something wrong, was the frequency of these attacks. Some of them had their own mind powers too. Last couple ones I saw had 6 or more "tough" rated enemis with them. One thing that really added to the frustration was that the game doesn't even tell you how they killed you, because I sure would like to know what sort of crazy "drop a nuke on that poor player" powers they were using. It often felt like I wasn't even given a fair chance against these guys before they completly wrecked my health pool or even killed me in one turn. At worst I think they showed up every three or so screens and they usually nuked me with something I didn't even see, usually leaving me with something like 1/10th of my health and I usually survived by just using salve injectors alot and letting the temporal fugue clones deal with them.īut my question here is, was I doing something wrong? Because it felt like I was doing something very, very wrong. At first they weren't too bad, either they killed themselves to my mental mirror or I just lasered them to death, but they started showing more and more often and they were turning in to pretty bad dudes all right. The problem began when the esper hunters from dimension sigma started showing up. He died at level 19.ĭealing with tougher, normal enemies, like goatfolk or even slumberlings, was tricky but doable by using proselytized allies as meat shields and using the tried and true method of running away while pelting enemies with pew pew laser beams. I took light manipulation, sunder mind and clairvoyance in the beginning and later gained sense psychic, which I don't think really did anything at all, temporal fugue, teleportation, mental mirror and mass mind. My latest character, who also got the furthest, started out with maxed out ego, alot of willpower, some intelligence and toughness mostly neglecting strength and agility completly. I've never before been intrested in playing espers instead playing big, dumb, axe wielding dismembering machines, but in the last couple days I've been playing exclusively pure espers.
